FPFC SoCal Expo to feature floral design contest, next generation of talent

The Southern California Fresh Produce & Floral Council Expo, “Get in the Game!” will meet on July 18 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, CA, and will feature a Floral Design Contest, which is open to designers with any level of experience. Every contestant will be provided with a mystery box of supplies at 10 a.m. and a theme will be announced at the event. Awards for first, second and third place in categories for different experience levels will be announced at 2 p.m.

FLORAL-DESIGN-CONTESTContestants craft their ‘Happy Birthday’ designs during the 2016 Southern California FPFC Expo Floral Design Contest.Space is limited for the design contest, and pre-registration is required, but there will be a very limited number of walk-in registrations accepted on a first come, first served basis. All registrations are done through department heads at participating retail chains, according to the association’s website.

FPFC will also be hosting the Center for Growing Talent by PMA students and their mentors at the expo, connecting them with FPFC member companies. The students, who hail from local colleges and universities, will learn about the supply chain and develop mentoring relationships with industry professionals.

The annual expo is an opportunity for hundreds of industry suppliers to showcase their latest products, upcoming promotions and innovative packaging. Buyers connect with suppliers to make purchasing and marketing plans, while store-level personnel are able to meet face-to-face with the people behind the products that they sell every day.

In addition, Marcus Allen, NFL Hall of Fame running back, will be the featured speaker at the Awards Breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Magic Kingdom Ballroom. Seating for that event is limited, so you are encouraged to arrive early.

At the conclusion of the one-day expo, the Orange County Food Bank will collect remaining floral and food product and distribute it to senior centers, needy families and schools for disabled children.
