Dave Yeager new Schmieding SVP of business development

Produce industry veteran Dave Yeager has been named senior vice president of business development for Schmieding Produce, headquartered in Springdale, AR.davebandw

Yeager, who for seven-and-a-half years was vice president of business development for grower-owned and Colorado-based Farm Fresh Direct and focused primarily on potatoes, officially started with Schmieding the second week of April. In his new role he oversees sales of the operation’s entire range of domestic and imported vegetables, which includes value-added product.

“It covers everything, including potatoes from Canon Potatoes in Colorado’s San Luis Valley,” he noted.

Yeager said of his move to the new position, “Schmieding is growing and acquiring companies across the country, and it’s exciting times for the industry.”

Major expansion for Schmieding came after it was purchased by Lester Woerner and his son, Trent Woerner, in 2015 under Woerner Holdings. Lester Woerner had served as president of Schmieding Produce until December 2017, and Trent was vice president of business development during those initial two years. Just before Christmas Trent Woerner was named company president.

Bringing his business development skills to the Schmieding position, Yeager said, “It was a tough decision to leave Farm Fresh Direct but such a great opportunity. I’ll travel nationally and internationally for both Schmieding and Woerner to develop sales and expand the supply chain.”

In addition, Yeager will “look for opportunities for acquisitions of other companies.”

His nearly 30 years in produce includes working as regional director with Chiquita, vice president of sales for Del Monte Fresh, vice president of sales for the Tippmann Group, Eastern division manager for NewStar and vice president of Farm Fresh Direct.
