Zach O’Keefe of NYAS to run in TCS New York City Marathon

Among the more than 50,000 runners who will take part in the TCS New York City Marathon will be Zach O’Keefe, logistics and production assistant at New York Apple Sales Inc., in Glenmont, NY.

“This is the third marathon I’ve run, and the first in the Big Apple,” said O’Keefe. “Since receiving a guaranteed entry from the New York Apple Association to participate in the race, I’ve been in training for the big day.”

Headquartered in Fishers, NY, the NYAA has sponsored the New York City Marathon on the New York state apple industry’s behalf since 1998, and has provided entries to runners since 1999.

In 2014, New York-grown McIntosh apples were declared the official apple of the TCS New York City Marathon, and apple fans are asked to donate to select local charities as part of the New York apple industry’s sponsorship.

Over the years, runners in the marathon have included fire, rescue and police officers from across New York, as well as retailers, farmers, distributors and other produce industry colleagues.

O’Keefe’s previous best time ever was in the 2017 Millinocket Marathon & Half in Millinocket, ME.

“Zach cruised the 26.2-mile course in 3:23,” said Jim Allen, vice president of marketing for New York Apple Sales. “Of course, he is aiming to better his time in New York City.”

Allen added that O’Keefe has been a runner since high school.

New York Apple Sales partners with over 65 New York growing partners and 10 individual packing facilities located across the state. O’Keefe is one of several young people who have joined the team at New York Apple Sales in recent times. The company is proud of its young, educated, professional and energetic staff additions.

“Joining the over 3 million spectators lining the streets of the five New York City Burroughs on November 4 will be Zach’s coworkers from New York Apple Sales cheering him on,” said Allen.
