Longtime produce retailer Paul Kneeland is leaving Ahold USA's Fresh Formats LLC in Parsippany, NJ, to join Gelson's Markets in Los Angeles. His last day at Ahold's will be Friday, April 21.
Kneeland's title at his new company will be senior director of produce and floral. Gelson's Markets, founded in 1951, has 25 stores in the Southern California area, according to Kneeland.
"I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with a great team and an iconic, established, quality-driver and growing banner," Kneeland told The Produce News Wednesday morning, April 19. "This is a great opportunity [to join] a great company. I'm looking forward to being part of it."
Kneeland, 52, began his retail career at Roche Bros., based in Wellesley, MA, and worked there for 26 years, rising to director of produce and floral operations. He joined Kings Super Markets (now Kings Food Markets) in 2007 to lead that chain's produce and floral divisions. He left Kings in May 2015 to join Ahold Fresh Formats.
