Idaho-Eastern Oregon's 2017 onion season

The Idaho-Eastern Oregon onion season is off to the races!

Although a 2017 severe winter weather pattern, followed by a cold and wet spring, made for a somewhat later-than-normal crop maturity, buyers and consumers are glad to see beautiful Spanish Sweets in a good range of sizes and, of course, excellent quality starting in the early varieties and extending all the way through the shipping season.

There have been many changes in the Treasure Valley over the last 12 months, some the result of Snowmageddon at the beginning of the year — snowfall measured in feet, compounded by ice, impassable roads and structural damage and loss across a wide swath of the area. Those speedbumps didn’t stop these onion pros, though, as this new season will bear testament.

Other changes involve the merging of philosophies, facilities and volume, along with advancing technology and capabilities. But one thing that hasn’t changed is the All-American stay-steady attitude, the grit and determination to do the job well.
