Costco placing greater focus online

Costco Wholesale intends to expand its partnership with Instacart and has launched an online shopping service, CostcoGrocery.

The deal with Instacart will continue to add locations through the end of next September. Instacart currently delivers about 1,700 fresh and nonperishable Costco items. CostcoGrocery, available as of Oct. 1, offers about 500 grocery items to be delivered free to Costco shoppers with baskets of $75 or more.

The announcement was made Thursday during a conference call reviewing Costco financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter. In the call, Richard Galanti, Costco’s chief financial officer, said “We feel good that we've got a few delivery options for our members that, frankly, are better than the ones they were doing the day before.”
