Leo Baribeau, a founder of Star Produce and former CPMA chairman, dies at 73

Leo Baribeau, a founder of Star Produce and former chairman of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, died Sept. 24. He was 73.Baribeau-Leo

Born March 22, 1946 in Edam, SK, Mr. Baribeau started his career with OK Economy Stores in North Battle ford, SK, where he met Virginia Wiegers, his wife of 51 years. In 1989 he was involved in the founding of Star Produce, which is now The Star Group and remained there until his retirement in 2006.

Mr. Baribeau was a former chairman of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, chairman of the Canadian Horticultural Roundtable, and sat on many national, international, and provincial fruit and vegetable boards and task forces.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sheila; brother, Robert; sister, Denise (Bob) Buckley; sister-in-law Wyonne Baribeau; and numerous nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Saskatoon.
